‘St Eugene’

Es-10-18-14, Itasca, Roland & La Crescent, Montreal, Quebec

A vegetal, textural & lifted zero-zero Canadian bubble for explorers of the beyond. Our second instalment from Lieux Communs is here! A small, urban winery in Montreal, they work with vineyards, orchards, and small farms across Quebec and Ontario to create their diverse, lively and ever-changing lineup. Made from a hybrid blend of the aromatic, spiced Es-10-18-14, mineral, white fruited itasca, apricot-y roland (developed in Quebec!) and tropical la crescent, all grown on sandy gravelly soils. A short carbonic maceration is followed by fermentation, then six months on lees in bottle (before disgorging) where it re-fermented and locked in aromatics, texture and MIGHT! FUN FACT! This is the first wine made from their new, early-ripening, frost-resistant hybrid grape varieties that were planted on Guillaume's cousin's small chicken farm in Saint-Eugène-de-Grantham (a cool, flat area near Drummondville) in 2021! Feverish bubbles, jalapeño - no spice, pine resin spiced, fiddleheads, sweet peach iced tea, salty minerality, sumac tannins & ripe gourds. So uniquely delicious, enjoy on the train to Montreal, just in time for Jazz Fest.
