‘Brouilly Bonnège’

Gamay, Beaujolais, France

A Brouilly so enveloping it practically picks you up and carries you on its shoulders to a far away haven. Since 2014 winemaker Pierre Cotton has been delivering organic and minimal intervention Beaujolais, but it wasn’t until the addition of partner Marine Bonnet, an agronomist specialized in viticulture, that the winery took its final form in 2020. (KIND OF) FUN FACT! Pierre and Marine usually blend the Bonnège parcel with the Les Mines parcel, but this year decided to make two separate cuvées as this is the last year that they will be able to harvest grapes from the Bonnège parcel  – which their family has been leasing for the last two generations – due to its recent selling. In other words, get it while you can. Pristine, mid slope, old vines from silty soil and granite, brings poised acidity and a wine simply toppling over with aromatics. Bundled flowers, glycerol-y cherry cough syrup, scraping your knee in the dirt, twigs + stems, asphalt, black forest cake & a lean, acidic finish to prep you for the next sip. Enjoy with a well spiced terrine and butter soaked mushrooms.
