Fleurie

Gamay, Beaujolais, France

A mineral, floral and zero-zero Fleurie worth fighting over! Marine Bonnet and Pierre Cotton are organic and minimal intervention winemakers in the Brouilly region of Beaujolais. FUN FACT! Pierre’s family has been producing wine at the same cellar in Odenas since 1856 – which we were so lucky to visit in 2023 and still think about today, the historic, mushroom-y air will forever scent our bojo dreams. Marine is an agronomist turned winemaker, and thanks to her, throughout their parcels in Brouilly they have replanted 500(!) trees in an effort to recreate lost habitat for animals, prioritzing cooling shade & water retention across their property. This gamay was hand harvested from pink granite soils, where the 50-year-old vines grow facing south towards the village of Fleurie – a view we’d certainly pay for! Carbonic maceration takes place in whole bunches to heighten aromatics, and is then aged underground in large foudres for nine months to ground. Crushed roses, sweet violet, licking the pink rocks (yes, we did it!), blue flavoured rock candy stick, baby cloth for swaddling hung to dry, cedar shavings, pomegranate powder, cave, orris root, butterfly wing dust & mellow green peppercorn. Pour alongside a blue cheese mushroom burger.
