Touriga Nacional, Swartland, South Africa
A full-bodied and satisfying Portuguese grape in the hands of an exciting young producer in South Africa. Jasper Wickens works 40 km north of Cape Town in the large coastal region of Swartland. There, along with a handful of fantastic producers like Adi Badenhorst, Mullineux & beyond, he’s contributing to an exciting range of terroir-driven wines like this one. Made from Touriga Nacional, a Portuguese grape that arrived in South Africa in the 1970s and quickly found a warm, cozy home in the sunny, sandy soils of the Swartland. 10 months in large oak foudres produce a full bodied and firm red, with smoked blackberry jam, dark chocolate & fresh rosemary adding layers of satisfaction. Pair with arm day and Kielbasa.
