āNV Grand Reserveā Magnum
Pinot Noir, Champagne, France
The Clouet family own 20 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards in the villages of Bouzy and Ambonnay but they were better known as the official printers to Louis XV in the 18th century, hence the incredibly regal-looking label on this fanciest little half-bottle of Champagne you ever did see! Jean-FranƧois Clouet lives above these historic chalk-lined cellars (dating back to 1741!) which still have the fake walls they used to hide their precious product from the Nazis in World War II. Made in a blanc de noir style aka a white wine from red grapes, this delicate but powerfully evocative sparkler is sumptuous and perfect ā ripe yellow orchard fruit, a spritz of lemon citrus & butter shortbread with a hint of honeysuckle and white macadamia. Balanced perfectly between crisp & fresh and creamy & full, she drinks like pure pleasure ā pair with pigs in a blanket & raw silks by candlelight.
