A swift, aromatic and animalistic old vine grenache with perfect deep fruit and satisfying structure. Environmental biologists turned winemakers, Jon and Pedro are two school friends from the Basque country who now live and work in Navarra. The most important thing they have in common, an undying love for old vine grenache! #canyoublamethem? Together they track down ancient, often forsaken, unirrigated bush-vines, and work to rehabilitate the vineyard without chemical intervention. From calcareous-clay soils, ‘Birak’ is old vine, aromatic and tart grenache (90%) that is destemmed and aged in stainless steel, with whole bunch cherried and savoury tempranillo (10%) aged in old French oak barrels and added to plump up the jam. Damson plum skins, animalistic pounces, blue florals, cigar stash and bakeshop ashtray, pomegranate split, blood orange & a spice drawer shuffle. Pour alongside big roasted meats and slipping the dog in the room a lil snacky-poo under the table.
