‘Un Chien Dans Un Jeu De Quilles’
Pineau d’Aunis, Loire Valley, France
A brand-new-to-Ontario lifted, spiced and floral red to chill and drink in big, satisfied gulps. Fabled winemakers Catherine and Pierre Breton and their organic, biodynamically tended vineyards in Bourgueil have been on the lips of wine lovers for over thirty years and counting! FUN FACTS! More recently, the next generation of Bretons, France and Paul (as well as Baptiste, the husband of France), are joining in the living legacy. Brand new to the domaine and a passion project of France Breton, this blend of spiced, berried pineau d’aunis (90% ) with a dollop of earthy, floral pinot noir (10%) is purchased from a nearby organic farmer and made in a highly quaffable style. The 30-year-old pineau d’Aunis and pinot noir wines were plucked from gravelly soils, whole bunch macerated and left in wood until spring to ground. Spring wildflowers, Nootka roses, white pepper, pomegranate meets underripe plum, walking arm in arm with a beloved friend & a tiny greenness that pulls you back to the land. Pour alongside asparagus, green bean and potato packed niçoise salad.
