‘Brut Nature Grand Cru’ Magnum

Chardonnay & Pinot Noir, Champagne, France

The Lahaye family has been making Champagne since the 1930s across the Grand Cru villages of Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tauxières, earning their biodynamic certification in 2010. Thoughtful choices in the vineyard allow for an extended ripening season leading to deeper flavours & greater concentration. This multi-vintage blend of Pinot Noir with a splash of Chardonnay was fermented with natural yeasts for 10 months in old Burgundy and Bordeaux barrels. Those neutral vessels are kept in a room with windows so that the wines can “see the seasons” — wines get seasonal depression too! — and are aged for 30 months on the lees, followed by a disgorgement and bottling without dosage or added sulphur. Clear-eyed and crystalline, this is richly decorated with ripe green apple, delicate white florals & twist of supple red fruit on the finish with creamy, expensive-tasting bubbles. With a little bit of this & a little bit of that, this grower Champagne definitely has it all.
