‘Origini Vino Rosso’
Nebbiolo, Croatina, Vespolina, Barbera, Uva Rara, Piedmont, Italy
Transport yourself to the Italian villa of your dreams with this devastatingly sophisticated traditional red field blend from Alto Piemonte. Most people know the Piedmontese stunners of the South, the powerful and dense Nebbiolo based wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. A couple of hours north, a handful of producers are creating growing acclaim for their similarly powerful and perfumed, but more elegant renditions of Nebbiolo thanks to cooler Alpine temperatures and volcanic soils. At the top of the heap is Conti Vino, a tiny 3-hectare organic property run by three sisters. Their Origini Vino Rosso is a nod to just that, the region’s original reds that were a blend of the many local grapes. The dried flowers, truffly earth and spice of Nebbiolo meet supple and juicy red plum and a velvety, dusty finish that lingers. Pair with your favourite fiction and binge-watching the HBO classic Rome while draped in velvet. Alternatively: red sauce pasta!
