‘Rozas 1er Cru’

Garnacha, Sierra de Gredos, Spain

A Garnacha for (red) Burgundy lovers, this wine is elegant, intensely fragrant & yearns to be savoured. Internationally revered – and old vine Garnacha obsessed – winemakers Fernando and Dani, aka Commando G, produce wines that express the mystical high altitude vineyards of Sierra de Gredos near Madrid, Spain. This Burgundian inspired, humorously titled, ‘1er Cru’, is hand harvested from six plots at the foot of a mountain and sings ever so sweetly of the stormy & tangled terroir. Fernando and Dani have gently harnessed & finessed the wild potential of these old Garnacha vines, as they delve into the sandy granitic soils, and bring forth a deep minerality, and ethereal air to all of their wines. From this vintage we get bushy raspberries, resting mountain pool minerality, ground pepper dust, wild rhubarb leaves, weathered alpine florals & a firmer tannin structure than its (accomplished) little sister ‘La Bruja’. Drink this wine in an overgrown backyard, while sitting on milk crates and having an intellectual argument over a haphazard chess match.
