‘Star Fish’
Melon de Bourgogne, Loire Valley, France
A stoney, citric and salty muscadet for beachside shenanigans. Eric Chevalier and his sister Gaëlle’s 69-hectares are based in Saint-Philbert de Grandlieu, southwest of Nantes, where they produce organic, terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention and extended lees aging. The melon de bourgogne for ‘Star Fish’ comes from 30-year-old vines. Grapes were direct-pressed slowly before spending a few months on lees to bring texture and fullness for a balanced and seriously crowd-pleasing crisp bottling. Citrus and their flowers, honey, stones, green pear, salt & a seaweed-y iodine minerality. Pour alongside sandy bums, tan lines, fresh oysters, seaweed snacks and mussels in late afternoon sunbeams.
