âVi De Vilaâ
Grenache Blanc & Macabeo, Catalonia, Spain
A potent, rich and salty Catalonian white blend that tastes like a string of pearls. Winemaker Ăscar Navas works in his grandmotherâs village of Villalba dels Arcs, in southern Catalonia, as he finds the unique terroir to be particularly exciting for grape growing. The region is FAMOUS for its VERY sandy soils (which also contain clay and limestone), as the vines are forced to grow extremely deep roots to find water, resulting in lowered yields, concentrated fruit, and heightened aromatics. The herbaceous, plump stone-fruity grenache blanc and floral, tart macabeo are slowly whole-cluster pressed swiftly after being harvested at their peak. Post fermentation the wine sees a ten-month maturation between French oak and chestnut barrels, followed by six months in the bottle to round and calm. Elderflowers, chopped lemongrass, fennel frond greenness, white pepper, wet concrete minerality, flaky salted peach, pomelo peel & a lemonade stand that also serves apple juice boxes. Enjoy alongside all manner of finger foods, mortadella skewers, pickle plates or roasted pistachios anyone?Â
