Founded in 2009 (but using bush vines planted in 2002), Intellego Wines is a painstakingly natural project by Jurgen Gouws. From the start, Jurgen has been laser-focused on intuitive wine-growing and minimal intervention wine-making, this focus means that each bottle is a true representation of the grapes, soils and climate of Swartland, with just a touch of sulphur so it can travel alllll the way to us in Ontario (for the very first time!). Chenin Blanc is such a special grape with perfectly balanced acidity that makes it a great summer-to-fall transition wine. After whole clusters are pressed theyâre fermented on lees in old barrels for 11 months. Stewed green apple, umami roundness, and citrus-y, honeyed florals with a generous pinch of salt that makes this a perfect food wine (especially for that fancy cheese plate youâve been dying to make) or a spicy-tart shrimp cocktail.
