Natural wine hero Judith Beck has a sixth sense for traditional Austrian varieties, farming biodynamically out of Gols on the warmer, eastern side of Lake Neusiedl. This light & spicy red is spontaneously fermented in stainless steel before two spending two months in acacia casks and another 8-10 months in old barriques, a two-barrel process imparting extra complexity & roundness which belies the very simple truth of it being absolutely delicious! One of those wines with a kind of inner luminescence, this is classically dark & moody Zweigelt, blackberry and dark cherry with gingerbread spice, a slightly stemmy underbelly & perfectly balanced acid. Wine for lovers of a well-crafted sentence who aren’t afraid of a leather pant.
