CĂŽt AKA Malbec, Cahors, France

Ever meet someone for the first time but it feels like you've known each other for a lifetime? That’s what Cît – or Malbec, outside of Southern France – drinks like, a ruby-hued red with a gorgeous, classic profile and its Louboutin-clad foot firmly planted on our necks! From Fabien Jouves, an incredibly warm & slightly wild winemaker based in Trespoux, near Cahors, his certified biodynamic 21-hectare property gives him the flexibility to endlessly riff on the classics, perfectly summed up in this sumptuous & snappy speciality unique to the region. Made from 35 year old vines, destemmed grapes were wild fermented in concrete for 7 months, then bottled without fining or filtration. Drinks like Jennifer Coolidge doing the bend-and-snap – deep, violet-scented black fruit pulls you in with notes of sour cherry, red liquorice, dried sage, a savoury truffle note and a touch of fresh cig, then snaps into sharp relief with feathery tannins, a whiff of oak & a glimmer of iridescent minerality on the finish – delicious! Pair with at-home French bistro fantasies & pom pom-tipped pencils.
