‘Montanet-Thoden Vezelay’

Chardonnay, Burgundy, France

A weighty, balanced and willful white burg to savour and share. Domaine de la Cadette was created by Jean and Catherine Montanet in the late 1980s in western Bourgogne's Vézelay, and has since grown into three separate labels -La Cadette, Montanet-Thoden and La Soeur Cadette. La Soeur Cadette is the umbrella name that all the wines are produced under, and you may know their brawny, block print style négoce (purchased fruit) labels which stick out on shop shelves like roses among dandelions. Today their son Valentin Montanet has taken lead of tending the 22 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, and is making the wines for all three labels. FUN FACT! Domaine Montanet-Thoden was established by Catherine Montanet in 2000 to showcase the unique terroir of eight hectares that had been passed down in Catherine’s family! The Galerne chardonnay grows in soils with a higher proportion of clay in the famously limestone-rich area, and the grapes are hand-picked and pressed gently before fermenting in stainless steel. Creamy pine nut, white flower flecked reduction, brined lemon, overripe pear, pomelo pith, bursting salinity & a kind hand of minerality holds the door open for a lengthy, full finish. A ritzy back pocket go-to that you should keep in the door of the fridge – you just never know what the day will bring, but what you do know is that this bottle will get the job done, and done right.
