Fleurie'

Gamay, Beauolais, France

A complex, energetic and utterly delicious old-school Beaujolais built to age. Lafarge-Vial is a jewel of an estate run by Chantal (nĂ©e Vial) and FrĂ©dĂ©ric Lafarge. For die-hard Burgundy lovers, this name will be familiar from their eponymous estate in Volnay, where they’ve developed a stellar reputation (and long wait lists). In 2014, they jumped at the chance to purchase 4 hectares of old Gamay in Fleurie where this wine is from. This cuvĂ©e is from two of those parcels on pink granite planted between 1950 and 1970. Vineyard work is meticulous with organic and biodynamic farming, horse plowing, hand-destemming and determination to ensure the most pristine fruit possible is selected. In the cellar, the wines are made without carbonic maceration to preserve soil character with 20-30% whole cluster (for texture and depth) before 1 year of ageing in large, well-used French oak barrels. Algonquin bush raspberry, ripe plum, crushed cardamon and smashed violets dusted with fresh earth. Enjoy now or forget in the cellar for a special moment.
