A floral, pickled and CRISPY Spanish malvasia. New to GW Imports, welcome to the lesser known world of Tarragona, Spain, as seen through the lens of Tanca Els Ulls! Talented winemaker Francesc organically tends the old regional vines planted by his grandfather from inside a breathing web of forests, wild herbs and hazelnut, almond, orange, olive and carob trees. The rippling chalky slopes of the area are brushed by salty breezes from the nearby coast, creating excellent growing conditions for their low-intervention way of winemaking. Planted 15 years ago on their calcarious clay soils, the highly aromatic malvasia sees four days of skin contact and five months of aging to swirl it into shape. Pickling salt pickled lychees, angel’s trumpet, lime sour patch kid, baked nutmeg, dried oregano, sand, saffron, ground chalk, pollen & sticky, tacky tannins that grind your molars.
