A mineral, spiced and DEEP food-craving alpine nebbiolo to set your innards ablaze. One of GW Import’s newest Italian arrivals, meet Marco Ferrari! Founded in 2019, Marco Ferrari is a newer estate in culty Valtellina, with a foot in tradition and another digging-in for dear life to the beloved alpine slopes. From high up in the mountains, Valtellina is known for its remarkably steep, time-worn stone-terrace vineyards. FUN FACT! The vines range from 70 to 110-years-old and come from a mix of glacial remnants and sandy, metamorphic soils! The nebbiolo is partially destemmed (30%) with 3/4 semi-carbonically macerated for lift, while the remaining 1/4 is macerated for 15 days with daily punchdowns to submerge skins and toss around the evolving flavours and aromatics – a lil tough love is good for them! The final concoction is left for 18 months on fine lees to really lock in texture and an air of (well-deserved) SUPERIORITY. A squash-y, vegetal nose, smoked huckleberries, green stem-y snap, dried wood, dry soil, new tube of lipstick, a lactic roundness & TONGUE SNATCHING TANNINS put us in our place! Enjoy with your Aries bestie, BONUS POINTS if it’s during Aries season and extra bonus points if you are somehow near an open flame – campfire, fireplace, gas stove or slowly disintegrating cigarette + bic lighter combo are all acceptable for collection of points.
