‘Rosso di Valtellina’

Nebbiolo, Lombardy, Italy

A vibrant, mineral and ethereal alpine nebbiolo for the thrill-seeking downhill skier in all of us. Founded in 2019 while working at the world famous ArPePe, Marco Ferrari is a small and gleaming jewel of an estate in the glacier-formed, river-carved Valtellina. High up in the mountains, Valtellina is known for their remarkably steep, time-worn stone-terrace vineyards and wines of cool elegance, and Marco works them with one foot in tradition and another digging-in for dear life to the exhilarating slopes. FUN FACT! The nebbiolo is sourced from a few different plots in Sassella and Inferno that rest on metamorphic soils of sand, gneiss and mica schist; these offer enhanced heat retention and provide good drainage, often leading to riper, more intense, and structurally complex wines! 2024 was a cool vintage, and the grapes were left 30% whole cluster for three days of semi-carbonic maceration perking up aromatics, followed by 13 days on the skins for tactility, and then aged in a mixture of concrete (70%) and large wooden cask (30%) for eight months to bridge all the gaps. Every liquorice flavour wound together, cherry, raspberry
red perfection, a tiny jaw-snapping natty snarl, light cacao dusting, soft herbs, rushing minerality & scrappy tannins that claw at you playfully. Pour alongside porcini risotto and The Mushroom at the End of the World by Anna Tsing.
