A mineral, nuanced and savoury high-altitude nebbiolo for alpine fanatics. One of GW Import’s three NEW Italian arrivals, meet Marco Ferrari! Founded in 2019, Marco Ferrari is a jewel of an estate in famed Valtellina, with one foot in tradition and another digging-in for dear life to the beloved alpine slopes. From high up in the mountains, Valtellina is known for their remarkably steep, time-worn stone-terrace vineyards and wines of cool elegance. With vines aging 60-80 years and predominantly coming from minerality-encouraging mica-schist and iron-rich soils, the grapes see a mix of lifting semi-carbonic maceration for four days and skin contact for twelve more before 18 months on lees churning inside their chrysalis. Chest at the bottom of the ocean, 90% chocolate, field of boulders, shrubby thorns n' sticks, cranberry sauce, squid ink minerality, plum tart & hugging someone with a beard who’s the same height as you.
