‘Savagnin En Quatre Vis’ 2022

A savoury Jura star from an exciting producer in the region’s south! Marnes Blanche was started in 2006 by Pauline and Géraud Fromont as ambitious mid-20-year-olds with big plans. They began with a white marl parcel in Cesancey and now also have vineyard plots in Vincelles and Ste-Agnès including rare extremely old 100-year-old vines. These were once bottles we snapped up while travelling and were offered for the first time in Ontario this year. Vines for this bottling are 40 to 60-years-old grown on four white marl slopes, the region’s famous soil and where the winery takes its name. Gently pressed, and aged in large oak vats called foudre and concrete egg for 10 months. Almonds, yellow fruit, lime blossom and green olive. Sip slowly, great things deserve attention.
