We recently met (sweet and thoughtful) D.S. Bio winemaker Danilo Scenna and were taken by this textured, savoury and herbal orange wine, which could double as a white and most certainly will sing with your main-course dishes. Grown 630 meters above sea level in Pescosolido, a tiny, stunning appellation also known (according to Danilo) for their gorgeous holiday homes (we’re interested) and horses (tell us more). Since starting in 2012, he has been committed to sustainability, biodiversity and reviving the region’s rare grapes including this one, Maturano blended with Lazio mainstay Trebbiano. Harvested from 100+ year old vines (!!!!) before aging in cement tanks after 2 days of skin contact.
