Negramoll'
Canary Islands, SpainÂ
A dainty, volcanic and dizzyingly aromatic Canary Island red that blew us away at a recent tasting. Juan JesĂșs of Viñåtigo is a fourth generation winemaker who has committed his time to identifying and recuperating regional Canary Island grapes from near extinction on Tenerife. The star of this show is negramoll, often compared to pinot noir, and known as the Canary Island's most delicate and aromatic red variety due to its thin skins (less tannin) and big berries (more water). These tender, ungrafted vines grow near the ocean, and wear their volcanic soil influence like a badge. Opening a Swedish berry packet volcano side, salted toffee, smoke coils, snagging acid & supple texture, like holding your grandmaâs left hand. Try with a lil chill and anything cooked on a skewer.
