'Marta’

Chinuri, Tbilisi, Georgia

A complex, spiced and eternally earthy Georgian skin-contact. Winemakers Bastien Warskotte and Nino Gvantseladze focus exclusively on regional grapes, and their wines not only carry the 8000-year legacy of Georgian winemaking, but also belong to the new wave of winemakers reintroducing Georgia to the world. FUN FACT! Named after Nino's niece, the very old vineyard of Chinuri is extremlely low yield, so low that that they can’t make Marta every year! We are LUCKY to receive a small amount this vintage, but don’t expect this to last long. Plucked from limestone soils, the chinuri spends six months on skins and stems in amphora compounding, and is then aged 18 months in old barrels smoothing out the ruffles. Resinous, like pine and cedar meeting ambergris, dusty spice rack, carrots in dirt, wood and stone bridge minerality, into a warm pizzelle, kvass, and a hippie black market store, like the warmth of mothballs, vintage leather & frankincense. Enjoy alone, there is so much new and different here, we wouldn’t want you to miss a thing!
