Roboul Rouge'
MourvĂšdre & Grenache, CĂŽtes Catalanes, France
A complex beauty from the high-altitude vines of the Cotes Catalanes. Soils in this region are incredibly complex, and the brothers use a single vineyard approach to highlight these terroirs, the Raboul coming from clay and limestone. Production is fully biodynamic and non-interventionist and has been for generations, yielding delicious wines that are lively, elegant and softly textured. Aged 10-12 months in old oak for texture and finesse.Â

2019 CĂŽtes Catalanes Roboul â 17 points
Pale, see-through ruby. Smells like violet-scented talc. Superb, translucent, floral, night jasmine, daphne blossom. The fruit is like paper-thin, ruby-stained glass. I have it in my mouth and I donât want to swallow, in case I break it. Wild damsons, their sweet intensity, the eye-widening pop of their acidity, their woodsy hedgerow-stemminess, their thin-skinned-but-defiant tannins. Dill. Caraway fronds. Startling elegance â have I ever tasted MourvĂšdre this diaphanous? Iâm pretty sure not. The finish drifts slowly away, like clouds. - Tamlyn Currin
