We were instantly delighted by this pretty as can be Premier Cru Burgundian Pinot Noir. Impossible elegant and jumping from the glass with raspberry spice & qUal!tY. Bonus points for long-time vigneronne & organic producer Hélène Jaegar-Defaix being one of the most lovely winemakers we know. This tiny 1 hectare Premier Cru monopole plot—aka it is just produced by this one winery—is protected by a stone-wall located just behind the family’s house. After a tough few vintages of frost and hail, 2022 was, in Helene’s words a “serene and generous” blessing, and it shows. After a three week maceration and fermentation, hand-picked grapes were aged in new and used French oak for 15-18 months to add stirring complexity and wisdom. We rarely get Rully in this market and it’s such a pleasure to share. Located in Côte Chalonnaise in the south of Côte de Beaune it’s known for quality and plushness with 1/3rd of it’s 330 hectares step-up Premier Crus. Silk dress, lace tannins, mortar-and-pestle ground spices & tiny farmer’s market strawberries. Drink with those you love while exhaling.
