Cabernet Franc, Loire Valley, France
A precise, pretty and personable zero-zero Loire cab franc to please any taste. A serious producer to know in the natural wine world, Germain was the first winemaker to farm biodynamically in Saumur-Champigny, a testament to the dedication and incredible craftsmanship on display throughout their entire library. The grapes are picked from a variety of vines aged 5-70 years, all of which are rooted in tuffeau limestone (formed from compressed marine sediments and fossils) and sandy-clay around Varrains (southeast of Saumur). Fermented in stainless steel to retain every morsel of itself, the cab is then aged briefly on lees between tanks and wood barrels for a gentle softening. Fresh, stippling florality, buoyant acidity, raspberry puree, pronounced graphite, wild blackberries, cabin in the woods & earthen minerality. Enjoy alongside open fire places, falling-off-the-bone dishes and loyal dogs.
