‘Terragno’

Cortese & Favorita, Piemonte, Italy

A blooming, lightly nutty and mineral Italian skin contact. Valli Unite has been an organic co-operative in Piemonte since 1981, making everything themselves, from wine to honey to salumi. Today, their winery is powered with solar energy and their vineyards (and wine) are interfered with at an absolute minimum. Instead, they monitor the fungi and insect populations before using non-harmful options like orange extracts, copper and bee propolis (from their bees) when necessary, and keep cellar additions to a minimum of sulphur. ‘Terragno’ is a blend of herbal, nutty cortese (60%) and citric, floral favorita (40%) grown on white clay that spends 20 days on skins in large acacia wood barrels before being aged for 12 months, developing a gently jolly personality we want to be friends with! Pollen, peach blossoms and peach tea tannins, persimmon, pine nut, lightly flinty minerality & the pleasure of sun-kissed freckly skin. Pour alongside tarragon pastry and Insatiable by Gael Greene.
