‘MaipĂ© de Taganana’

Listån Blanco, Canary Islands, Spain

An aromatic, SALTY and dense Canary Island STUNNER. Juan JesĂșs of Viñåtigo is a fourth generation winemaker who has committed his time to identifying and recuperating regional Canary Island grapes from near extinction on Tenerife. Recently his charming son Jorge has taken over, and is on the hunt for the most unique plots the island has to offer. Maipe is a vineyard located in Taganana, a tiny village located in the Anaga Massif, in the north-east of Tenerife. The vines were planted more than 120 years ago in the red basalt and clay soil, and in the early 1900s a landslide buried the whole vineyard. For a hundred years, the vines slowly clawed their way up and through the rubble towards the sun, and now their fruit is somehow held in the bottle you see here! Seriously, one of the coolest vineyards in the world. The listĂĄn blanco (palomino) was fermented in amphora and aged on lees in French oak barrels for five months to pull an ample texture. FUN FACT! Only 1,449 bottles were produced! Sooo salty, just you wait, single gunshot fired in the standoff scene of a western, honeysuckle, beeswax, yellow apple, orange peel bitters, thyme shrub, volcanic minerality, mushroom basket, voluminous viscosity & ground fennel seeds. Tuck in to sleep for a few years or enjoy tomorrow with Pulpo a la Gallega, octopus with potatoes and sweet paprika.
