âEl Mentridanoâ
Grenache, Méntrida, Spain
A delicate, mineral and absolutely swoon-worthy Spanish grenache. Winemaker Curro Barreño moved back to the area he grew up in to take over Viticola Mentridana from his childhood pal Dani Landi, one of the pioneers working with the old vines here! FUN FACT! Curro is also known for the ethereal wines he produced at Fedellos do Couto! The Sierra de Gredos region is famed for their rough granite, sandy soils and oaky meadows, southwest of Madrid. This hand-harvested, old vine grenache comes from Curroâs grandmotherâs vineyards and is whole-cluster macerated for eight days to set in finessed tannins and florality, before seven months of further aging. Stunning florals swell from the nose to the tongue, mint oil, tart elderberry, candied violets, wood box full of sand tannins & steak spice ending. Pour alongside the dish that most remind you of your grandmother.Â
