Garnacha & Cariñena, Terra Alta, Spain

A dependable and dripping in juiciness Spanish red blend for weekday sipping. Brothers Francesc and Joan FerrĆ© are part of a two century long line of grape farmers, making energetic natural wines in the Terra Alta appellation of Catalonia. They work with regional varieties such as, the ruler of the land, vernatxa (grenache blanc), the RARE vernatxa gris (grenache gris), vernatxa fina (grenache noir), carinyena, garnatxa peluda & morenillo. A blend of the beloved fruity and spicy garnacha fina (60%) and earthy, meaty carignan (40%) harvested at the same time, destemmed, foot stomped and co-fermented with their skins for one week before being aged in concrete tanks. Juicy, light and always oh-so-bright, think hibiscus tea poolside, dark cherry juice box, hallway potpourri, grenadine, freshly picked blackcurrants, a sneaky herbaceous-ness & relaxed tannins. Pour while flipping through Sam Youkilis’ photobook.
