2021, Morillon & Sauvignon Blanc, Styria, Austria

A zero-zero, savoury and dazzling orange Austrian we receive on teeny tiny allocation & are THRILLED to share. The ceaselessly elegant, eloquent and earthly offerings from the Tscheppe’s are a jewel of our portfolio and quite frankly the world. Long committed to biodynamics, the stunning Styrian vineyards exclusively grow sauvignon blanc, welshriesling and morillon, the local name for chardonnay, which share in their good fortune with fruit trees, herbs, vegetables and lush forest. FUN FACT! Their lineup is bottled in accordance to elevation and soil type to give us a real TASTE of their site specific terroirs! From the ‘Ex Vero III’  plot at the highest elevation of opok soils, the blend of 39-year-old plush, mineral morillon (30%) and herbaceous, slicing sauvignon blanc (70%) are left with stems and stomped by winemaker Ewald’s feet before resting on skins and stems for five weeks collecting might, spice and wonder. Two years in large barrels on lees brings us to ‘Freude’, meaning  ’Joy’, and chock full of morel mushrooms, sumac, candied lemon, eating a freeze dried ice cream bar in space, a damp yet dusty cave, white airheads & woody spices. Pour while whispering a story to a loved one inside of a blanket fort.
