Grencahe Blanc, Muscat d’Alexandria, Jura, France

Like a jar of momentarily captured fireflies, breathe in the warm glow, then release. Karnage is the triumphant and unpredictable coming together of two friends, inspired wine shop owner StĂ©phane Planche and passionate winemaker Charles Dagand. Together they have developed this nĂ©goce (bought fruit) winemaking operation in Arbois, working with grapes from their grape growing friends all over the south of France. ‘Greska’ is a blend of opulent grenache blanc (85%) from Languedoc and corsage-wearing muscat d’alexandria (15%) from Canet-en-Roussillon. Fermented separately, both grapes saw a 50% direct press, with the other half left whole cluster and macerated in the juice for 10 days (a technique referred to as ‘trompette’, or ‘steeping’) to extract a rich and balanced tannin structure. Pineapple flower, mineral heartbeat, honeycomb cereal bag, cooling rosemary and mint herbaceousness, melon slices on lemon sherbet, green peppercorn & lime squeeze. Pour while the daffodils pop up outside your back window.
