‘Tir a Blanc’

Macabeu, Grenache Gris, Muscat d’Alexandrie & Muscat à Petits Grains, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

A zero-zero, illustrious white as mystical as a genie in a bottle, and never to be seen again. Legendary vigneron Alain Castex worked his 2.5 hectares of ancient vines in French Catalonia since 2014, with a reputation as one of the region’s vinous parental figures, setting the tone for other natural winemakers. A blend of his low-yielding, oldest vines (over 100 years old), including citric macabeu, full and textured grenache gris, floral muscat d’Alexandrie & spiced muscat à petits grains all direct pressed for crisp clarity. THE FACTS! A rarity since forever, Alain would produce 1000-2000 bottles by himself in the best of years, and as this is his last vintage, it’s now or never baby. All hype aside, these are some of the most alive wines you could ever hope to have. The relief of being shaken awake from a nightmare, aurora borealis-esque yeasty plume, wild flower lined garden path, scrubland bitters and scrapes, pickled papaya accent, lemongrass, yellow plums, lavender honey & fresh tarragon leaves. Squirrel away for a bit or sip while watching your favourite film by Akira Kurosawa.
