âVeronnet Blancâ
Altesse, JacquĂšre, Savoie, France
Quietly confident, demure, & delicious delirium are a few words we would use to review this wine if it were a broadway play and we were NY critics. Corentin Houillonâs zero-zero bottles of pure alpine bliss are here to knock your extreme-hiking boots off, just like they did ours back in February of 2023 when we visited his serene property. Fermenting away in Chautagne, a small Jurassic valley in the northern Savoie mountains, Corentinâs wines are about precision, terroir & pristine farming. FUN FACT! Veronnet is the old name of the estate, this wine meant to be a liquid summary of what theyâre all about. This electric blend of local varieties includes (55%) fragrant altesse and (45%) mineral-driven jacquĂšre, aged on lees in concrete to build texture and plot. SO salty and less volatile acidity than last year, instead Veronnet is alive with limeade made from mountain spring water and lime juice that was not freshly squeezed, aniseed, lithe white peach, mild herbs, half n half creaminess & a creeping crescendo of acidity. Enjoy with an herb-packed wild mushroom galette.
