‘La Luna Rosé’

Cinsault, Syrah & MourvÚdre, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

A splendidly aromatic, spiced and collectors-item-unique south of France rosĂ©. Fresh in from Grape Witch Imports, the sun-soaked wines of Bruno DuchĂȘne are now available in Ontario for the very first time! Bruno, a SUCCESSFUL mushroom grower for top restaurants, retired to the southern region of Banyuls-sur-Mer in his early 40s, and began making wine in 2002 when he became bored of retired life (okay!). Today he tends to his 4.5 schist-y hectares of 15 to 70-year-old, terraced vines with as little intervention as possible to produce his region-defining lineup. Situated in this dry, windswept terrain, Bruno’s work in the vines is more easily kept to a minimum with plowing done by hand or mule due to the region’s steep slopes. The blend of 50-year-old, tartly-berried cinsault (50%), savoury syrah, bright gamey, and spiced mourvĂšdre (the remaining 50% together) were picked from their schist-y home, and direct pressed, providing this exceptionally resplendent hue. Grandma’s water-closet potpourri meets English garden, clotted cream sliced n’ diced by minerality, rose hip, icing sugar coolness, plucky herbs & a strawberry ring pop ending that mixes with a swathe of sweet, curing and green spices. Enjoy alongside a tuna + anchovy niçoise salad.
