âBuddyâ
Marquette, PEC, Ontario, CanadaÂ
A floral, fruity and zero-zero, teeny tiny release of Ontario-grown marquette rosĂ©! Driven, unendingly knowledgable and KEY industry advocate, Drea Scotlandâs project Drinks Farm, is all about grounding curiosity, newfound sensory experiences & utilizing the best local ingredients. This year the biodynamic heirloom apple farm + vineyard in Thornbury that she purchases this marquette from was hit hard with anthracnose (a fungal disease) in late 2025, and as a result, where Drea had been expecting to receive about five tonnes of fruit to make LOTS of âBuddyâ and âJarelâ, she instead ended up with only about 700 kg of grapes that resulted in 45 cases of this wine. Sad to have so little, but the grapes that DID make it are excellent, and this is her fave Buddy to date. FUN FACT! Marquette is a teinturier grape, meaning that not only the skins are a deep red, but the fruity flesh inside is also red and capable of creating an intensely coloured wine from direct pressing, which is exactly what she did! Drea shared that this vintage feels really exciting to her, âlike cracking a code on marquette and this is just what this grape wants to beâ. A sneaky spritz upon opening, dark and dynamic, brambly with super seedy wild raspberries, wind rolling through a wildflower grotto, fennel seed, underripe pink plum, pepper powder, clouds parting & tentative pecks of tannin. Chill down and pour alongside Whereâs Waldo books, saucy ribs or spike ball tournaments at the beach.
