Tinto'
Pinot Noir, Merlot, Riesling, Nelson, New ZealandÂ
The distant cousin who moved to a small cabin in a very rural town you can never remember the name of, whose life you now want? Partners Josefina Venturino & Alex Craighead started Kindeli in 2014 after spending the beginning of their careers in conventional winemaking. They now farm organically and opt for ingredients such as seaweed, compost and bat guano(!) to aid their vines. Between the rows youâll find local trees, a small creek & plenty of wild cover-crops. âTintoâ is a combination of pale-berried pinot noir (70%), deep and cherried merlot (20%) and acid-forward riesling (10%) planted on supportive Moutere clay (ancient clay and gravel soils that the area is known for). A small amount of grapes went through carbonic maceration to up the juice-factor, and the rest spent 5-12 days on skins extracting playful tannins. Pomegranate powder, horse blanket, oregano, tart strawberry, pickled olive, tomato leaf, multipurpose workshop, pine kernels & centre-of-the-Earth minerals. Put a chill on it and enjoy while whittle your first spoon.
