A limey, verdant and ultra-mineral Hungarian white blend for lovers of margaritas, sorbets and ceviches. Just in from GWI and available in Ontario for the first time, Kolónia 52 is the collaboration between young gun winemakers AnnamĆ”ria Tƶrƶk and Attila Francisti in Balaton, Hungary. The property is cared for following organic and biodynamic practices and is composed of volcanic soil (basalt) with limestone, sand and clay, and the winemaking is carried out in a pristine low-intervention fashion. The extremely appropriately named ā€˜LIME’ is a blend of direct-pressed, orchardly, mineral riesling (90%) from sand stone-basalt and all-over-verdant furmint from clay-basalt, aged between oak barrels and amphora for eight months. (kind of) FUN FACTS! 2024 was actually the hottest and driest vintage ever in this area, but by harvesting super early they were able to maintain a balance between richness and acidity - which is quite honestly impeccable! Also, before this challenging vintage they had never added any sulphur to their wines, which they’ve shared was quite a hard decision! #yougottadowhatyougottado! LIME, wild grass, full riesling vibes, white and green flowers, salt pretzel, acid POPS alongside soft plushness, green apple, chalk & granite. Enjoy alongside a sticky Chinese pork belly.Ā
