'Chercheurs D'Or Vin de Paille'
Chardonnay, Savagnin & Poulsard, Cotes du Jura, France
An extremely RARE and seriously sublime vin de paille (straw wine) from an iconic wine family. Labet is a producer of highly allocated, singularly divine and deeply respected wines by all whoâve had the privilege to taste. Founded in 1974 and located in the village of Rotalier at the southern edge of the Jura, the estate today is run by siblings Julien, Charline and Romain, who are continuing the important work of their parents Alain and Josie, with the utmost finesse and respect. The Labetâs organically farm their 14 hectares, which are divided into 45, uniquely significant micro-parcels of (mainly) old vines. The Vin de Paille is a blend of old vine (30-60 years-old) rich, yet tart chardonnay, nutty, citric savagnin and floral, savoury poulsard that were dried out on straw mats for five months before resting in wood barrels for SIX YEARS! Candle wax, halva, citronella, assorted nut mix, apricots off the branch, dried and woven grasses, soft caramels, Meyer lemon, a full quince jam body & one review even went so far as to write, âa caress that is not forgottenâ. Enjoy with the stinkiest cheese you can find or a pile treats â chocolates, candies & marshmallows galore.Â
