‘Pinot Noir River Sediments’

Moravia, Czech Republic

A spiced, spritzy and zero-zero Czech pinot noir plucked from an ancient riverbed. Situated near the otherworldly Thaytal National Park, Martin Vajcner’s certified organic vineyards are spread across the ancient Znojmo wine region. Martin comes from a family of grape-growers with a long and rich history; the oldest written record of his family in the region is from 1634 where they were cited as the Weinschnitts or ‘vine-cutters’ in Moravia. FUN FACT! The vineyards are planted on the clay sediments of a tertiary river valley, that means the rivers ran here approximately 66 million to 2.6 million years ago! The grapes are semi-carbonically macerated for 10 days in wooden containers, then matured in French oak and Moravian amphora to soften and open like a sweet little flower. Tart cherry juice making your mouth water, a little spritzy, cranberry jujube, vegetal vivacity, like cucumber skin or cutting a squash, salt, sweet n’ woody spices & a supple, rounded tannic structure. Enjoy alongside homemade stuffed-crust pizza topped with fresh basil and thinly sliced raw tomato.
