‘Non-Tradition Rot’
Cabernet Franc, Burgenland, Austria
Christian Tschida’s wines are true rarities in the natural wine world, living testaments to cutting-edge biodynamic practices and meticulous, low-intervention winemaking. Working with wildly overgrown vineyards along Lake Neusiedlersee, his vineyards are incredibly biodiverse, enriched with their own plant matter & many of them family-owned for over 200 years. ‘Non-Tradition’ is the follow-up to his flagship Domkapitel wines, made outside of the requirements of the Austrian Wine Act because rules are made for breaking! This scrumptious Cabernet Franc that spent 24 months in large 500L and 1000L barrels, followed by another 12 months of aging and bottling without fining, filtration or added sulphur. Lustrous, dark fruit, black peppercorn, hand-rolled tobacco, cherries from the Dark Forest, licorice root & saddle leather. Zalto-worthy & definitely worth a decant, savour it’s slow smoulder, quivering at the very height of melodrama, probably directed by Wong Kar-Wai.
