Skin-Contact’ Magnum
Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng, Muscat d’Alexandria, Cahors, France
Our favourite athleisure-styled rockstar of France’s South-West knocks it out of the park with this skin-contact wine. In the hills of Cahors Fabien Jouves (Mas del Périé) is making delicious, biodynamic wines from the region’s famous grape Côt (aka Malbec), along with a cast of lesser-known but very intriguing regional grapes. Three of these regional white grapes definitely steal the show here: Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng, and Muscat of Alexandria are macerated together for 3 months in concrete and then aged a further 6 months, producing a perfectly balanced, quaffable yet complex orange wine. The tropical juiciness of Muscat and the ripe apricot texture of the Gros Manseng just cannot contain themselves in this summer, sunset party. Stewed yellow fruit, rose, citrus and spicy notes with refreshing acidity.
