âPartisan Cru Blancâ 2018
Riesling, Traminer & Sauvignon Blanc, Trnava, Slovakia
A sweet-meeting-bitter, verdant Slovakian white blend that is practically photosynthesizing right in front of us, and we are lucky enough to get a swig of its life-force. The charismatic family behind Slobodne have rebuilt their farm over the past 25 years; sisters Agnes and Katarina (and their partners) make some of the most exciting Slovakian wines we know! FUN FACTS! They practice beekeeping across their 17 hectares of vines, as well as tending to livestock, growing poppies, barley, herbs, wheat & more! PLUS, on the label you can find the original stamp of their winery from one hundred years ago when it was led by their great-granduncle Maximilian Schwarz! Left on fine lees for two years in barrels (made from their own local oak trees), the blend of cutting riesling, traminer and viridescent sauvignon blanc come together like three animals stacked on top of each other inside a trench coat, to appear as a supple, sumptuous and chenin-passing BEAUTY. So greeeen, petite pois, freshly picked sweet corn sweetness meets a bitter chalkiness, how tarragon is sweet n' green but with photosynthesis sugars, pool inside a cave, a sprouting spring awakening, salt & green peppercorns. Enjoy alongside watercolour painting and the lullabies of Lucinda Williams guiding your hand.Â
