âRebulaâ
Ribolla Gialla, GoriĆĄka Brda, Slovenia
Herbaceous and textured Slovenian orange. The Ć tekar family has been growing grapes near the border of Italy, in Goriska Brda since 1985. Today, Jure Ć tekar watches over six acres of vines (and cherry orchards!) scattered throughout the rugged, marked hills of western Slovenia, committed to making the low-intervention wine that would have made his grandfather proud. Rebula, also known as ribolla gialla, is a local grape of Friuli, Italy and western Slovenia, known for its giving aromatics and punchy acidicity. Plucked from the famous local Opoka (marl) soils of the area before being left on skins for 24 days, and aged in giant acacia barrels for eight months of calming. Yellow fruit cornucopia, tight acidity clings to amber base notes, well-knit tannins, sunflower petals & minerals that sit on the tongue to gaze at the moon. Enjoy with a big olâ bowl of pho or a plate of gildas!
