âPinot Gris RĂ©serveâ 2023
Pinot Gris, Alsace, France
A plush, sweet and near-sentient zero-zero pinot gris from an Alsatian wonder. Available for the first time in Ontario, the peerless wines of Elena and Bruno Scheuller have arrived! In Alsaceâs Vosges mountains, south of Colmar, Bruno and Elena work ten hectares of vineyards, continuing Brunoâs familial lineage of winemaking in the region that dates back to the 16th century! The pair showcase Alsatian grape varieties, impeccable farming and a spectrum of limestone-stuffed terroirs ranging from Eguisheim and Husseren-les-ChĂąteaux, to Grand Cruâs like Pfersigberg and Eichberg. FUN FACT! Where typically âreserveâ indicates a wine being aged longer in barrel before release, here Bruno uses the term to indicate that the grapes have come from parcels containing a higher proportion of clay than limestone, resulting in a richer expression and one that he suggests should be aged longer! The grapes are picked from 40+ year-old vines, direct-pressed and aged in large oak barrels for over 12 months before being bottled with a solid amount of residual sugar for blissful aromatics and mouth feel. Petrol station, white flowers, Haribo golden bears, candied orange slices, rushing minerality, apricot jelly, underripe mirabelles, oxidative spice, fall honey, beeswax & scraped vanilla pod. Save for a spring equinox and enjoy like a thirsty lil hummingbird, using your specialized fringed tongue to lap this precious nectar.
