‘Faugères Tradition’
Carignan, Grenache & Cinsault, Languedoc, France
A sun-dried, deeply savoury and superbly enticingly WILD southern red blend from an icon. Thirteenth generation grape-grower (!) Didier Barral began making wine from the family vines in 1993 in the tiny town of Lenthéric, an appellation buried deep in France’s southern Languedoc. The estate covers 35 hectares that extend from the Pyrenees to the Garrigue forest. Didier does an incredible amount of work to promote life and soil health, including adding compost from the cows and pigs he raises! Grown on schist, the blend of biodynamically tended, 40 to 70-year-old spiced, savoury carignan, herbaceous, berried grenache and tart, floral cinsault were maceration for 10 days, then aged for 24 months in concrete tank. Spiced and leather-bound, blackberry jam, a dried, crumbling herbaceous-ness, black olive tapenade, lightly smoked & black plums. Pour alongside your first of the year BBQs.
