âRaRuâ
Field Blend, Piemonte, Italy
Everyone has a favourite child, you donât have to agree, we KNOW itâs true â and this is winemaker Mario Siragusaâs. A truck driver by trade, he began his passion project in 2013 after stumbling across a small abandoned vineyard while running. With no official training to speak of, Mario is guided by instinct and pulls counsel from the natural winemakers and wines he loves and respects. Referring to it as âthe pearl of my heart and soulâ, âRaruâ is entirely composed of regional grapes from the first vineyard Mario began rehabilitating in 2013. Near centennial aged vines heaving with flavour and character, including: brunetta, neretta, cuneese, chatus, carcairun and barbera plus a few unidentified ones (whatâs in a name anyways?) all co-planted like the most inviting commune weâve ever heard of. The harvest is extremely labour intensive to make sure that every variety is picked at its peak. Five weeks on skins together before nine months of aging gives shape, form & opens up our palettes to the vast expanse of unknowns in the world. A frame of wet alp florals, marsh herbs, sweet spices, Earth caught between root systems. Pour alongside studying maps & twirling globes, you intrepid lil traveler.
